About this workshop

Discover a centuries-old resist-dyeing tradition developed by women in Southwestern Nigeria. In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn how to prepare a natural cassava starch paste and apply it freehand onto cotton fabric using chicken feathers, following traditional techniques practiced by generations of artists. Guided by expert instructors, participants will explore the cultural significance of the process while creating their own unique textile designs.

Materials supplied

The subsidized fee includes the use of cassava starch, dye supplies, and stencils. Each participant will be provided with one meter of cotton. Participants will keep their finished projects. An experienced instructor will guide each step of the process. Refreshments will be provided.

Eligibility

Open to all adults and children ages 8 and above.
