About this workshop

Àdìre Alábéré (Stitched Resist) is a Yorùbá resist-dye technique as well as a well-known technique in several other cultures. Artists and craftsmen and women would make lovely patterns using hand stitching on fabric before dyeing. In this workshop, participants will explore both straight-line and zigzag stitching methods to produce striking geometric designs on fabric.

Materials supplied

The subsidized fee includes the use of sewing supplies, tools, dye supplies, and sinews. Each participant will be provided with one T-shirt and one meter of cotton. Participants will keep their finished projects. An experienced instructor will guide each step of the process. Refreshments will be provided.

Eligibility

Open to all adults and children ages 8 and above.
